Ingredients

  • 1lb ground beef
  • Smithey Wok
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp flour
  • 2 Tbsp + tsp avocado or olive oil
  • ½ to 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-2 Thai chives, thinly sliced (or ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes)
  • ¼ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 Tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 cup fresh packed Thai basil (or regular basil) leaves
  • 2 cups cooked rice, for serving (optional)
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves

Directions

  1. In a large nonstick skilet, heat 2 tablespoons of avocado oil over high heat. Brown the ground beef. Season with the salt, pepper, and flour. Set aside
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and add the onion, bell pepper, garlic, Thai chiles. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are very tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Return the beef to the skillet. Add the coconut aminos and fish sauce, then stir to combine.
  4. Simmer, stirring, until the sauce reduces and thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the basil leaves until wilted, about 1 minute.
  6. Spoon over cooked rice, if desired, and top with fresh cilantro before serving.
